"God created – Linnaeus arranged" That is how Linnaeus summarised his life's work. To us it may sound like a sign of delusions of grandeur, but for Linnaeus this was a humble standpoint. He was the one chosen to realise the order in God's creation. Linnaeus had a distinctive feeling for collecting and systematising information. Furthermore he was skilled at selling his ideas and at filling those around him with enthusiasm. Those talents made it possible for him to realise many of his ideas. |
